How big is an Iowa Class Battleship? Nearly as long as three football fields... 888 feet,
to be exact. But, just how big is that in comparison to other United States battleships?
Perhaps you have visited one of the ships pictured below... (If you've visited the USS
Alabama in Mobile, that would be the same size as the USS Massachusetts since they are
both of the South Dakota class.) To give you an idea of the size of these ships, the
photograph below shows the USS Wisconsin moored next to the hulk of the USS Oklahoma that
was salved from the Pearl Harbor attack. The Oklahoma was roughly the same size as the
Arizona. Notice the incredible difference in size between the World War I vintage Oklahoma
and the World War II vintage USS Wisconsin.
