Above is a cutaway drawing of a the USS
Iowa as she appeared in 1945. The diagram is color coded to show you what
portions of the ship served what purpose.
The above drawing represents an attempt to split the
difference between reasonable detail and reasonable size to display on your monitor.
Not everything is possible to label with total accuracy when confined to such a small
space, so generalizations have been made.
For example, "storage" constitutes food
items, paint, other ships equipment - pretty much everything except ammunition. All
ammunition is colored coded the same, and this includes 20mm, 40mm, 5" and 16".
"Crews Quarters" are not specifically broken down such as enlisted
sailor, marine, chief, or officer use.
Also, on the above diagram, one pixel represents
approximately one foot, and the diagram is fairly accurate when it comes to scale.
However, some features have been slightly re-aligned to allow for improved clarity at the
expense of technical accuracy.
